denim revolution methods for washing denim

Here we clear up the proper ways of washing your denim since there are many methods that are a no-no when it comes to taking care of premium denim. These methods will retain perfect fit, wash, and overall look.

1. Dry Cleaning is the ultimate way to clean your denim. Clearly the barriers of this method are definitely the inconvenience of actually going to the dry cleaner and it gets to be expensive after awhile. Also if the branding on the back is a thin leather, the extreme heat of dry cleaning could make it curl which seems to be the only damaging side of this.

         2. Cold water soak is good for getting rid of dust and dirt. You may lose a little indigo on the first wash but not nearly as much as hot water and you probably won't even be able to tell the difference. If you are washing a dry jean in cold water it may lose some of the luster and shine that usually characterizes dry denim.

         3. Cold-to-tepid soapy water soak will work fine if you have greasy stains such as food or other, Treat them as you would if you were washing delicate items, like handmade items or cashmere - use a simple soap (e.g. pure soap -- no enzymes, no phosphates, no bleach such as Bronner's Soap. It is a bar soap but does the job just fine). Soak and rinse in clean water until satisfied. Basically the thing to remember is that indigo is insoluble in water, so a minute's soak in cold water isn't going to remove any dye worth worrying about.

*Turn inside out before washing, and hang dry.

Wet washing will remove the shine, but you'll get some of that back with wear - as the natural compression and friction will recreate a calendaring effect (like when you iron a black cotton shirt and create unwanted shine)
.

To Remove Chewing Gum there are two options. Method 1 consists of washing the gum off with vinegar and keep peeling at the gum until its off.. usually works like a charm. Or if you cannot stand the smell of vinegar, method 2 would be to take an ice cube to the gum and basically freeze the gum until its hard and it should crack right off!

To Remove Blood there are a few methods that work so choose whichever you have easiest access to. Peroxide works just fine and will not stain or bleach out jeans and it is something that most people have around their house. Another option is just simply using Shout to soak the stain and it comes straight out. Seltzer water also works just as well if you have that on hand.

To Remove Wine Stains is usually pretty simple as long as you get to it right away. The longer you let the stain sit, the more time it has to permeate and set. Simply spray the stain with Shout or another stain remover and wash straight away as normal.
