Denim not fitting the way you'd prefer? Could you do with them being a bit tighter? Maybe even shorter? Well we have the answers for you at DR.com.. Follow these different methods of shrinking half an inch or up to 3" in just a few hours!
Just want your denim a touch
more snug?
If your denim is worn out or just a bit
larger than you'd like, you can shrink them at tiny bit two ways:
1.
Wash them in hot water inside out and hang dry as usual (do NOT use the dryer
after washing in hot water unless you want them super-shrunk). This process
shrinks the fibers and takes some of the starch out which makes more room for
shrinking (if you like your jeans stiff and want to put the starch back in
after this process, see our starching section). **If you are hand washing in
hot water, you may see a lot of indigo bleed into the water, but don't fear,
there will be minimum to no fading on your jeans.
2. Wash them in cold
water inside out and put them in the dryer on high heat until they are half
dry.. then line dry the rest of the way. (Some denim fanatics take them out of
the dryer while half dry and put them on to complete the other part of the
process so the denim shrinks and conforms to their body. It's completely up to
you!)
Interested in super shrinking your denim?
It is very possible to shrink your denim up to 3 inches in width and 2 inches
in length! If your denim is all around too large on you this is definitely the
way to go!
First
you'll want to get a bucket,
container, or even a huge pot and put your inside out denim inside.
Next
boil enough water to cover the denim and
pour the water into the container with your jeans.
Keep
refreshing the water when you feel that its becoming
luke warm. Repeat this for the next few hours (you can do this up to 4 hours
for maximum shrinkage). PS: You can do this process in your bathtub however
the indigo may stain if the porcelain is white.
When
it comes time
for the denim to dry, put these babies in the dryer on high for an hour.
We know that some of you are cringing
due to the fact that this sounds like absolute torture for your denim!! Rest
assured that as long as they are inside out they should be just fine. If you
are dealing with a high quality denim as you should be, there will be minimal
bleeding with little to no fading. We know how to take care of denim here at
DR and would never put you in the position to mistreat a piece your beloved
collection.
